A foam chamber is a simple device. It bolts onto the side of a flammable liquid storage tank. Foam comes in through the chamber, gets mixed with air, and lands gently on the surface of the liquid inside the tank.
The PCL-type is a low multiple foam generator. That means it produces low-expansion foam – the thick, wet kind that flows across the surface of burning liquid. Not the light, fluffy stuff you see at a car wash. Heavy foam that stays where you put it.
This thing has no moving parts. No electricity. No maintenance beyond keeping it clean. You bolt it on, connect a foam supply pipe, and forget about it. Until a fire starts. Then it works.

PCL-Type – What Does That Mean?
The "PCL" designation varies by manufacturer, but in general:
P – Foam chamber (some systems use "P" for foam)
C – Low multiple (low expansion)
L – Possibly a design series or material code
What matters is not the letters. What matters is that a PCL-type foam chamber is designed for:
Low expansion foam (2:1 to 20:1 expansion ratio)
Fixed-roof tanks
Liquid hydrocarbon fires (Class B)
There are other types. High expansion foam chambers for warehouses. Subsurface injection systems for tanks. But the PCL-type is for surface application – foam delivered onto the liquid surface from above.
Common Mistakes
Mistake 1 – No breakable seal
Someone installs the chamber without the glass disk. Or they test the system and forget to replace it. Tank vapors escape continuously. The air inlet may also let air into the tank. Not safe.
Mistake 2 – Wrong orientation
The foam chamber has a top and bottom. The air inlet should be on top. Install it upside down, and the foam chamber won't pull air properly. Foam quality will be poor.
Mistake 3 – Undersized pipe
The foam supply pipe needs to be large enough to deliver the required flow without excessive pressure drop. For long pipe runs, use the next size up. Pressure drop kills foam quality.
Mistake 4 – No strainer on the foam supply line
Debris in the foam solution can clog the air inlet or the foam nozzle. Install a strainer upstream of the chamber. Clean it regularly.

Q1: What is the breakable seal for?
The seal keeps tank vapors from escaping through the foam chamber when the system is not in use. When foam flows, it breaks the seal. You replace the seal after every test or actual fire. Don't run the chamber without a seal – your tank will vent through the air inlet.
Q2: How do I size a foam chamber for my tank?
You need the tank's surface area and the required application rate (typically 5 L/min per square meter for hydrocarbons). That tells you how much finished foam you need. Then match that to the chamber's foam solution flow rate. For a 20-meter tank, you usually need two chambers. Send us your tank diameter – we'll do the math.
Q3: How many foam chambers does one tank need?
One chamber typically covers a 10- to 15-meter radius from its mounting point. For a 10-meter diameter tank, one chamber is enough. For a 20-meter tank, you need two chambers on opposite sides. For larger tanks, you need more. We can calculate the exact number for your tank.
