Alarm Check Valve is core element in wet pipe fire sprinkler systems.It serves a dual purpose which prevents a reverse flow of water (non-return),also provides for the use of the water motor gong. Meanwhile,in the event of variable pressure condition,false alarm is prevented with provision of retard chamber at the external bypass.

Q1: What's the difference between an alarm check valve and a regular check valve?
A regular check valve only stops reverse flow. An alarm check valve does that – plus it sends water to a water motor gong when flow happens. The retard chamber prevents false alarms from pressure surges.
Q2: Where is the alarm check valve installed?
In the mechanical room, on the main water supply pipe to the sprinkler system. Installed horizontally. The water motor gong mounts on the outside wall.
Q3: How does the retard chamber prevent false alarms?
It delays the alarm by 30 to 60 seconds. Short pressure surges don't have enough volume to fill the chamber. Only steady, continuous flow – from a real sprinkler opening – fills the chamber and triggers the gong.
