According to the study of international environmental protection organizations, haloalkane 1301 gas contains chemicals that destroy the atmospheric ozone layer, so on September 11, 1987, the United Nations Environment Programme promulgated the Montreal Agreement on Substances Gradually Damaging the Ozone Layer by member countries, providing for the complete phase-out of haloalkane 1301 gas fire extinguishing agent by 2005. At the same time, at the international environmental protection conference held in Japan at the end of 1997, representatives of various countries had a serious discussion on carbon dioxide that caused the global greenhouse effect, and in view of the inevitable trend that haloalkane 1301 gas extinguishing agents will eventually be stopped, countries have actively promoted the development of haloalkane 1301 gas substitutes in the past decade.

FM-200 clean fire extinguishing gas, as the most ideal halogenated alkane 1301 gas replacement recognized by the American Fire Protection Association, has been widely used in Europe and the United States. The domestic authoritative gas fire extinguishing agent scientific research institution "Zhejiang Chemical Research Institute" also completed the localization work in 1997, the Fire Department of the Ministry of Public Security has also instructed Tianjin Fire Protection Research Institute to organize a special group to compile FM-200 clean gas automatic fire extinguishing system related specifications, it is expected that FM-200 clean gas automatic fire extinguishing system will be rapidly promoted and developed in China.

At present, FM-200 should be preferred in the fire extinguishing system of the petrochemical industry.
